JOIN THE TEAM

We’re recruiting more volunteers to help our management committee during our next funding grant which will allow us to continue our activities for another year. As part of this grant we hope to expand our range of activities and socials but to do this we need more people to be involved with running the group.

If you’d like to be more involved in the trans community, learn new skills and meet new people then this is a great opportunity to do so! We’re really excited to get some fresh faces involved with new perspectives and ideas for the group’s future.

If you’re interested in helping out, there are a few different ways you can be involved:

FULL COMMITTEE MEMBER

This involves joining the committee officially and helping out with the general running of the group.

Ideally you should be able to commit to the role at least until the end of our next funding grant in October / November 2024. The exact time commitment per month will vary depending on which tasks you help out with, but will include 1-2 hours for our online committee meeting, attendance at whichever events you’re able to go to, and some time spent on admin tasks and Discord discussions.

Responsibilities:

  • Join the committee Discord channel and contribute to discussions about the running of the group.

  • Attend the monthly online committee meetings - it’s ok if you’re not able to attend all of them but for planning and decision making purposes we need people to be able to attend most of them.

  • Help out with general admin tasks such as replying to messages/emails, contacting organisations to make enquiries or bookings, posting on social media.

  • Be available to help run events on the day, which involves greeting and signing people in, answering questions and making sure people know where to go, engaging with attendees to make sure they feel welcome and included, liaising with staff at venues.

COMMITTEE ASSISTANT

This is an option for those who aren’t able to commit to joining the committee full time but would still like to help out on an ad hoc basis. We will create a Discord channel which people would join, then if the committee need help with running an event we’ll create a post asking for volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Join the committee assistant Discord channel and respond to requests that you’re able to help out with.

  • Some requests will be to assist a committee member with running an event. This could involve setting and clearing up, liaising with venue staff, or helping with the activity itself eg staying at the back of the group during a walk to make sure everyone stays together.

  • We may also ask for someone to be a point of contact at an event (usually swimming) if no committee members can be present. This involves greeting people when they arrive, answering questions and making sure everyone knows where to go and making a note of attendance for our records.

SPECIFIC EVENTS

If you’d like to organise a specific event or work with us to run an activity, get in touch with us to tell us your idea and we can discuss it further.

BENEFITS

In return for your time and skills you will benefit from:

  • Learning new skills and developing existing ones

  • Taking on new challenges and gaining confidence

  • Meeting new people

  • Being involved in the trans and wider LGBTQ+ community

  • Helping to make a difference to trans and non-binary people

When we receive our grant we will have a budget to pay for training, which could include specific skills such as first aid, walk leadership, outdoor skills etc. We can also pay for things like DBS checks and provide expenses where required.

You’ll also be able to have more direct influence over which activities we do and of course you get to benefit from our events as participants as well!

HOW TO APPLY

If you’re interested in joining the committee or being an assistant, please fill in this form.

There will be a space to submit a short paragraph where you can explain why you’d like to volunteer and to let us know about any skills or experience you have which would be particularly useful.

After we’ve received your application we will aim to get back to you within 14 days.

We particularly encourage applications from people of colour and AMAB trans people as they are currently under-represented on our committee.

If you have any access needs or would like any further information about volunteering with us before applying, please get in touch with us via email or messaging us on Facebook / Instagram.
